Organized by

In collaboration with

Preamble
The Global Climate Risk Index 2021 ranked Pakistan as one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change and
extreme weather events. Pakistan has been experiencing long heat waves since the beginning of last decade causing torrential
rains, glacial melting and devastating floods in 2010 and 2022. These calamities have resulted in loss of thousands of lives, and
large scale devastation of crops, houses and other infrastructure. Moreover, 2024 has been confirmed as the hottest year in the
world’s recorded history. Consequently over 60, 0000 people died only in Europe due to heat. Various manifestations of human
induced climate change impacts in 2025 in Pakistan and India include increased melting of glaciers, heavy rains, cloud bursts,
flash floods, landslides and rock falls in KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Uttarakhand. Subsequently, heavy monsoon rains caused
catastrophic floods all over Punjab and in parts of Sindh, which have destroyed crops over millions of acres and resulted in huge loss to
the rural livelihoods and the national economy.
A two day hybrid international conference will provide a platform for geoscientists, environmentalists, engineers, climate change
experts, and other stakeholders to identify causes of extreme weather calamitous events, their impacts and suggest
mitigation/adaptation measures.
